The Magnaflux Zyglo® ZL-2C Post Emulsifiable Fluorescent Penetrant is resistant to water to prevent over washing from occurring which allows more penetrant to remain in discontinuities, improving the accuracy of inspections. This penetrant needs a lipophilic or hydrophilic emulsifier to be added to become water washable. The ZL-2C classifies as a Type 1, Method B penetrant when using ZE-4B emulsifier or a Type 1, Method D penetrant when using ZR-10B remover. It has a normal penetrant sensitivity level of 2.
Recommended viewing is under an ultraviolet light with a wavelength of 365 nanometers. An example of this would be the Magnaflux® ZB-100F fan-cooled black light. Under UV light, the ZL-2C glows a bright greenish-yellow.
Applications for the ZL-2C include castings, forgings, and machined surfaces to find cracks, seams and other discontinuities or defects.
ZL-2C complies with AMS-2644, AECL, ASME B & PV Code Sec V, ASTM E1417, MIL-STD-2132, ASTM E165 and MIL-STD-271.
ZL-2C’s formulation has been designed to be impervious to water to protect it from over washing and permit more penetrant to remain in discontinuities for improved detection of small defects. It and other post emulsifiable penetrants require the application of a lipophilic or hydrophilic emulsifier to render them washable with water.
Zyglo® ZL-2C fluoresces a bright greenish-yellow under ultraviolet radiation. Use of an ultraviolet light source with a peak wavelength of 365 nanometers, such as the MAGNAFLUX® ZB-100F fan-cooled black light, is recommended.
Zyglo® ZL-2C penetrant meets OSHA requirements for Class III B liquids due to its high flash point and can be used in open dip tanks.
