Sir-Chem® dry method magnetic particle inspection powders are highly refined, nonfluorescent (visible) pure iron particles used for magnetic particle testing. These powders come in grey, red, yellow, blue, and black, offering the largest range of color options for optimal contrast during inspections. Consistently sized to meet NDT industry standards, Sir-Chem® powders provide excellent colored contrast on surfaces with good particle buildup.
Designed for use in visible light, these powders reveal medium to coarse discontinuities on fabricated components or weldments found on bridges, pipes, large tanks, machinery, and equipment. They are suitable for use on high-temperature surfaces up to 800°F (427°C), except for Sir-Chem® 63 Red, which is rated up to 600°F (315°C). Although not recommended, indications may form after the magnetization source is removed, depending on the magnetic characteristics of the inspected component.
For a successful dry powder magnetic particle inspection, apply Sir-Chem® dry powder to the inspection surface using a spray bulb or powder blower. Dust the powder over the part while applying the current, and gently blow off any excess powder to reveal a clear and reliable test result.
