Another BHGE world first: mid-range borescopes offering powerful, accurate, stereo capabilities.
BHGE has introduced the world’s first budget-friendly video borescopes that combine stereo measurement and high-clarity imaging with easy portability and use. Versatile BHGE XL Flex and XL Flex+ VideoProbes offer high specifications at an affordable price. Key features include large, bright screens and powerful light output, for clearer and more precise results, plus options of Menu Directed Inspection 2.0 and wireless data transmission.
Borescopes have become increasingly important tools in remote visual inspection (RVI), which forms an essential part of a non-destructive testing (NDT) approach to monitoring assets. With a sufficiently capable borescope, you can inspect internal aspects of engines, turbines, combustion chambers, pipelines and other engineered structures without having to dismantle them.
The latest BHGE borescopes are especially useful if you work in industries like oil and gas, power generation, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, automotive or aerospace. To assess the condition of components, welds and material surfaces, your borescope must produce sharp, well-lit video and still images and enable high-precision measurements. By meeting these criteria, BHGE XL Flex and XL Flex+ increase your probability of detection (POD) for pitting, cracking, corrosion and similar defects.
Better Images and Information Right in Your Hands
The image quality of these VideoProbes is excellent, with a display resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. Both models benefit from unmatched strength of illumination in the inspection area, with a custom option of streamlined changeability between white and UV light. For the clearest visibility, XL Flex+ has an 85% larger LCD screen – 5.0 inches instead of 3.7 – which is also three times brighter. Clear displays not only enhance your POD but make interfacing faster and easier to navigate, reducing eyestrain during extended inspections.
The optional stereo measurement technology built into these borescopes is based on a patented prism design which captures right and left stereo images from slightly different perspectives. Matching of surface points in the right and left images enables accurate evaluation of defects in depth, so you can make better-informed decisions.
Easy Inspecting and Reporting
Using one dual-function joystick, you can control a variety of standard and stereo optical tips with 360-degree all-way articulation. User aids include XpertSteer, bump gesture, menu access and navigation functionalities.
An intuitive application, Menu Directed Inspection (MDI) 2.0, is an available option to guide you through the inspection process, step by step, making the VideoProbes simple for any user to operate. It helps you tag images automatically and organize your results for simplified reporting. XL Flex has 4 GB of internal flash memory, while XL Flex+ increases this to 16 GB – enough to store up to 15 MDI 2.0 templates.
Connections and file transfers are facilitated by two USB ports and a VGA (video graphics array) output. By purchasing a Toshiba FlashAir memory card, with embedded wireless LAN (local area network) connectivity, you have the option of transferring files wirelessly.
Portability, Convenience and Rugged Design
Weighing just 4.3 pounds, your BHGE XL Flex and XL Flex+ VideoProbe comes in a lightweight, wheeled, carry-on case which you can comfortably transport anywhere. This case features an integrated insertion tube storage reel and has convenient pockets for accessories.
Probe lengths of 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.5 meters are available with a minimum 160-degree tip deflection. For 6.0 meter probes, this reduces to a minimum of 140 degrees; for 8.0 or 10.0 meters the minimum is 120 degrees. Custom lengths are available on request.
Standard batteries give 2 hours of runtime, but you can upgrade to batteries with 4 hours of runtime, both without the use of tools.
Although light and compact enough to handle in any situation, they are constructed to withstand the toughest environments. They are sealed against dust and water to IP55 (Flex) or IP65 (Flex+) standard. They are even tested to US military standards MIL-STD-810G and MIL-STD-461F for durability. Their ruggedness minimizes maintenance costs, for a lower total cost of ownership.
Improved Uptime and Efficiency
Visual inspection is an essential proactive defense against unexpected equipment failure, which can lead to costly downtime and damage. To avoid missing defects during inspections, you need a borescope that has high image quality. This also prevents the need to dismantle machinery for examination due to poor visibility.
Along with these sources of downtime, consider the time it takes you to carry out inspections. This may impact machine availability for production and it certainly affects your own productivity. With efficient, user-friendly borescopes like the XL Flex and XL Flex+, you will see what you need more quickly and obtain more accurate results. You will be able to make better, well-informed decisions with greater confidence.
